Matthew W. Stavish was born in Washington, D.C., June 14, 1967, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1989. Mr. Stavish received his law degree from American University in 1995. Mr. Stavish was a Patent Examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office in various arts and classifications where he reviewed patent applications for compliance with U.S. Patent and Trademark requirements and technological accuracy in the art of interrelated motor and transmission controls (classes 74 and 475), including planetary/non-planetary gear systems, differential driveline systems, hydraulic transmissions, continuously variable transmissions, auxiliary transmissions, and mechanical mechanisms.

He is registered to practice before the Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the Maryland State Bar. Mr. Stavish is also a lecturer for the Bar Review course of the Practicing Law Institute, instructing students on Patent Office procedure and claim drafting.
